There is nothing like turning in your resignation to find out how people truly feel about you - and to find out what you're going to miss the most in a company or job.

they were surprised but very understanding.. its almost worse when they're sad to see you go - i have serious attachments at this job!

It is worse when you know that they'll miss you. It's the best when they know that the job change is the best thing for you, no matter what it means to them. That's when you REALLY know that they care about you as a human being and not just a worker bee.
